EBC Inc. assists unemployed and low-income area residents to prepare for job placement at information technology, telecommunications, biotechnology and other professional worksites.  Through a partnership with local and state government, and others, EBC TechKnowledgy Center provides computer-based training and permanent job placement for unemployed, displaced, and low-income Durham residents.  Permanent job placements include broadband installation, data entry, administrative, and clerical positions.

Since May 1999, Excellence By Choice/TechKnowledgy Center administers an information technology demonstration at Bimbe Cultural Arts Festival, an annual event sponsored by Durham Parks and Recreation Department.  Billed as the “Virtual Village” Technology Expo, over 15,000 area residents have visited this unique exhibit that includes interactive technologies and simulations for everyone in the family.

  EBC Inc. honors include:

 Ø      Selected as the 1998 recipient of the coveted National Black MBA Association - Raleigh/Durham Chapter “Community Connections” Award for exemplary service to the community. 

  Ø      Selected by the North Carolina Business Committee on Education - Office of the Governor, as one of five exemplary organizations in the state in 1999.

  Ø      In March 1999, EBC/TKC presented its highly regarded Tech Initiative during the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Minority Achievement Statewide Conference.

  Ø      Selected to train high school graduates participating in The City of Durham - Pathway Program. 

  Ø      Selected to administer computer-based training for youth enrolled in The City of Durham, NC  1999 Summer Youth Employment Program.
